“ There has always been an
urge to nurture a connection
to the natural world,” says
David Whitman. “It can be as
simple as cutting flowers from
the garden.” At his home and
garden shop, Pergola, you'll
find a collection of uncommon
plants, patinated terra-cotta
planters, and other curiosities
displayed— all to inspire cus-
tomers to capitalize on what's
right outside their doors.

Any flat surface can be the
stage for a natural tableau.
David created this one,

by filling a trio of aged terra-
cotta planters with pussy
willow cuttings, a faux finch
nest, and a button fern plant-
ing. A metal tray of rocks
unites the display.
